The Regional Economic Development Program (RWP) was renamed GRW at the turn of the year, with more funding options and the same contact persons. The GRW is a joint task of the federal government and the states to improve the regional economic structure (Article 91a of the Basic Law).
Its goals are to create and secure jobs, to compensate for location disadvantages and to accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral economy. The funding period runs from 2022 to 2027.
The GRW funds commercial investments by companies of all sizes: the construction and expansion of business premises, the expansion of product diversity, environmental and energy efficiency measures, and consulting and support services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Sectors on the list of non-eligible economic sectors are excluded.
The grants depend on company size and funding area (C1, C2, D):
In C areas, an increase of five percentage points is possible under certain conditions. Under the de minimis rule, the rates are 45% (small), 35% (medium) and 20% (large).
The project must be located in the designated funding area in NRW, and the economic activity must be carried out permanently as the main activity at the business premises. The point of contact for advice and approval is NRW.BANK, which advises applicants free of charge. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
